(Taiwan) Frost & Sullivan recognizes Taiwan industry achievers at BioBusiness Asia 2005

On the final day of this year's BioBusiness Asia conference, a forum and partnering event for the life science community held annually in Taipei, international consulting firm Frost & Sullivan recognized a number of Taiwanese life science companies with awards for their achievements over the past year.
Frost & Sullivan, a global growth consulting company, has been partnering with clients to support the development of innovative strategies for more than 40 years, and has a strong life sciences division with analysts and consultants in a number of locations in Asia and around the world. BioBusiness Asia 2005 is one of the largest annual biotech investment events in Asia Pacific, currently in its fourth year.
In biomaterials, SciVision Biotech was recognized with the 2005 Product Line Strategy Leadership Award, for its excellence in manufacturing and introducing a complete line of hyaluronic acid (HA)-based products for the domestic and global markets.
Cell-tissue banking company BIONET was recognized in the cell therapies market with the 2005 Business Development Strategy Leadership Award. This award recognizes companies that anticipate consumer needs, developing suitable products/services, successfully introducing them to the market, and identifying new market segments to expand the existing customer base. Established in 1999, BIONET's cord blood business unit, BabyBanks, is the first and largest private cord blood bank in Taiwan.
Pharmaceutical manufacturer ScinoPharm Taiwan was recognized in the active pharmaceutical ingredients market with the 2005 Entrepreneurial Company Award, for its array of process research and development (R&D) services and active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) manufacturing capabilities. Frost & Sullivan noted that the sales of ScinoPharm products have almost doubled each year, reaching US$17.84 million (NT$571 million) in 2004.
Ornamental fish company Taikong received Frost & Sullivan's 2005 Product Innovation Award for transgenic animals and crops markets. Taikong Corp. pioneering efforts in transgenic research and development and particularly, for its ornamental glowing gold fluorescent fish. Founded in 1977, the company earned global fame with the world's first genetically engineered fluorescent fish that glows neon green in the dark. Taikong's sales in 2004 touched NT$370 million, with sales of fluorescent fish accounting for up to NT$46 million of this figure.
ADImmune received the 2005 Growth Strategy Leadership Award in vaccine markets, for expanding its reach in the human vaccine market, despite being an already established participant. Frost & Sullivan presents this award to the company that has demonstrated an exceptional growth strategy within its industry. ADImmune Corporation is the only privately owned human-use vaccine manufacturer in Taiwan, with vaccine products including tetanus toxoid products, Japanese encephalitis vaccine, and influenza vaccine.
Agnitio was recognized in the bioinformatics market with the 2005 Technology Innovation Award, presented for its groundbreaking BioIC, based on a revolutionary microfluidic technology, and for its LabIT technology suite. According to Frost & Sullivan, Agnito Science & Technology is a leader in the commercialization of bioinformatics and biomicroelectromechanical systems (MEMS). BioIC is a revolutionary microfluidic technology based on the principle of micro total analysis system (µ-TAS). This technology platform can automate liquid handling and protein- and DNA-based detection.
Presenting the awards at BioBusiness Asia was Manoj Kenkare, Frost & Sullivan's Vice President, Research (Asia Pacific), Healthcar & Life Sciences, following his presentation at the conference entitled Taiwan's Biotechnology Competitive Benchmarking Analysis.
