(Taiwan) BiotechEast introduces technology promotion platform at Taipei forum

Life Science News (Press release, BiotechEast Co., Ltd.)

28 February, 2008
Life Sciences marketing and info-research company BiotechEast has developed a new package of services for companies in Taiwan's life sciences sector, to help them publicize their technological achievements overseas and to increase opportunities for international business partnerships.

Dave Silver, president of BiotechEast, speaking at a forum on alliance building for Taiwan's life science community, in Taipei, Wednesday, 27 February, 2008.

Called the 'Taiwan Life Sciences Technology Promotion Platform,' the package was announced at a forum in Taipei on Wednesday held to highlight promotional and alliance-building strategies by companies in Taiwan's burgeoning biotechnology sector.

"Although Taiwan's life science companies are making progress with exciting innovations, it’s the visibility and promotional aspects that we see are lacking," said BiotechEast president, Dave Silver.

For example, recently patented technologies often end up "gathering dust" at technology transfer offices at research institutes and universities, where salaried staff have no incentive to promote them, he mentioned.

As explained by Silver, the platform includes a range of services such as the editing and rewriting of a participating company's technology documents, posting of these documents on some of the world's most visited technology trading websites and email newsletters, and a technology brief sent to pharmaceutical consultants and technologies assessment specialists worldwide.

With Big Pharma willing to spend billions of US dollars on acquiring new discoveries that could lead to the next blockbuster drug, Taiwan companies in this sector are wise to try to capture some of this interest, suggested Silver. He also noted that the new service was a very cost-effective alternative to trying to 'go it alone' on promotion.

"To construct effective targeted promotions on your own is a very expensive proposition. We've been able to pool resources and negotiate with promotional channels on a volume basis to bring down the cost for participants from Taiwan," he said.

"We also make sure we take every opportunity to reach the kinds of people who are looking for new life science technologies," he added.

With the service already up and running in a trial offering, participating companies are already seeing results, with a number receiving inquiries from significant international companies in their target sectors.

Participants in the program include companies in Taiwan's drug discovery, medical devices and nutraceuticals sectors, according to BiotechEast.

Wednesday's forum, entitled "Building Commercial Opportunities in the Life Sciences through Technology Promotion and Alliances," was organized by BiotechEast along with the Biotechnology & Pharmaceutical Industries Program Office, MOEA, supported by scientific journal publishers Nature Publishing Group, Asia-Pacific.
