The annual joint meeting of two Taiwan and New Zealand-focused business councils will take place this coming October in Auckland, New Zealand, with the focus of the event being the growing biotechnology and biofuels sectors.

The 19th joint meeting between the Taiwan-based "ROC-New Zealand Business Council" and the NZ-based "New Zealand-Taiwan Business Council" will be held at Auckland's Crowne Plaza Hotel, 16-17 October.

The theme will be "New Zealand and Taiwan-Biotechnology and Bio Fuels -- Research and Opportunities and Business Cooperation." Topics up for discussion will include investment, biotechnology and biofuels, with the aim of the conference to increasing understanding and cooperation between Taiwan and New Zealand's biotechnology industries, and to introduce potential investment opportunities within the two economies.

Speakers at the event will include Nick Arathimos from New Zealand's Trade and Enterprise office, introducing New Zealand's investment environment; Dr Attilio Pigneri, Associate Director, Massey University Centre for Energy Research, and Dr Richard Curtis, Business Development Team Leader, AgResearch, introcucing an overview of the biofuels sector and presenting New Zealand's biofuels program; and Dr Jerry Chen, Director, Taiwan Biotechnology and Pharmaceuticals Industries Program Office, talking about Taiwan's life sciences sector.

Participants in the event will also spend time post-conference visiting a number of biotech companies located in the Auckland region.

With the location of joint meeting of the two business councils alternating annually between New Zealand and Taiwan, last year's gathering was held in Taipei, with the conference focus also on biotechnology.
