(Taiwan) DCB director to speak at bio investment forum in SF

Life Science News (BiotechEast staff)

4 October, 2005
Dr. Juilien Huang, president of Taiwan's Development Center for Biotechnology (DCB) will speak at the 13th Annual Biotech Investing Conference, a national forum showcasing the leading growth companies in life sciences, to be held in San Francisco, 2-3 November.

Huang will make a presentation during a session of the conference entitled "The New Virtual Company: Building Global Networks to Drive Development." The session will examine such questions as how to run a globally dispersed company so that it can deliver results for investors, and how to use international networks of focused expertise to support product discovery and development.

These topic areas are particularly pertinent to Taiwan's biotech industry development strategies, as the island has been pitching itself recently as a provider of quality and cost advantageous drug development services to Western biotechnology companies.

Speakers in this session will include an internationally diverse cross section of private and governmental organizations, including Peter Lennox, the director of the US office of New Zealand Trade & Enterprise; and Glenn Rice, CEO of Bridge Pharmaceuticals, a company offering drug development solutions to biotechnology companies in the West by leveraging Asian cost advantages in this area.

According to event organizers IBF Conferences, the gathering aims to explore investment trends and opportunities in life sciences, with a focus on public and venture-stage growth companies as well as those poised to join the growth "watch list" in 2006. The forum will feature 200 public and venture-stage company presentations, 14 workshops on the latest market and investment opportunities with an emphasis on drug and technology development, one-on-one investor meetings in private rooms, and breakout sessions between presenting company executives and investors.

The event will be chaired by industry notable and pioneer Dr. Cynthia Robbins-Roth, founding partner of BioVenture Consultants, and author of "From Alchemy to IPO: The Business of Biotechnology."
