Montreal, Canada-based Biophage Pharma and the Institute of Biomedical Engineering of National Taiwan University announced that the two parties last week signed a collaborative agreement aimed at accelerating the development and application of nanotechnology-based biosensors for the detection of slow growing microorganisms and viruses.
According to a press release from Biophage, this wireless multi-parameter monitoring system, combining the unique properties of Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR), gold nanoparticles and phages (or antibodies), will be mainly used for the detection and quantification of viruses and very slow growing microorganisms, such as Mycobacterium tuberculosis.
Founded in 1995, Biophage Pharma Inc. is a biopharmaceutical company developing novel products based on the unique properties of phages. The company is building a portfolio of new diagnostic tools based on nanosensor technologies and focused on the rapid detection of biological contaminants including those used in biowarfare, according to the company.
Established in 1928, Taipei-based National Taiwan University is the most prestigious institution of higher education in Taiwan.
