Special promotional section:
BIOTECHNICA 2007 - Europe's leading
trade fair for the biotechnology sector focuses on industrial applications
BiotechEast in association with Deutsche Messe (Hannover Fairs), Taipei
Office, is pleased to be promoting BIOTECHNICA 2007, Europe's premier
specialist biotechnology exhibition and conference. The event will be
held in Hannover, Germany, from October 9th to 10th, 2007.
BIOTECHNICA 2007 invites participation from Taiwan and around the
world
As Europe's largest biotechnology exhibition, BIOTECHNICA provides
a showcase for the latest products and technologies from the biotechnology
sector. Organized by Deutsche Messe (Hannover Fairs), BIOTECHNICA 2007
promises to be bigger than ever, offering better facilities, more exhibitors
and forums, and even more visitors.
One need only look to CeBIT to show the potential for Taiwan participation
in BIOTECHNICA 2007. CeBIT, also run by Deutsche Messe, is not only the
world's largest computer exhibition, but the world's largest fair in general,
with 6,153 exhibitors at this year's event. Taiwan, with a 602 exhibitors,
was once again the largest non-German contingent, surpassing even the United
States. CeBIT provides brand exposure and big business for such companies
every year. BIOTECHNICA 2007 holds the same potential for Taiwan's budding
biotech industry.
With Taiwan a partner country of BIOTECHNICA 2005, its presence was highlighted
by a joint industrial pavilion as well as a well-received country seminar.
BIOTECHNICA 2007 again offers numerous opportunities for all sectors of
Taiwan's life science industry; governmental organisations, scientific institutions
and industry alike. For venture capital companies, it's a chance to source
investment opportunities. Scientists and researchers can apply as speakers
at forums and lectures. And for individual companies, it's a chance to offer
products to a higher targeted audience. Delegations and individual visitors
are invited to take part in this event and to update their understanding
of the latest technical advances from Europe and around the world.

BIOTECHNICA 2007 - Discover biotech from the inside

Europe's leading biotechnology show is about to open its doors once again
- the international trade fair BIOTECHNICA will be taking place at the
Hannover Exhibition Center from 9 to 11 October 2007. Now in its 15th
year, the international industry get-together will offer an effective
platform for showcasing new trends and developing contacts. BIOTECHNICA
is the only show attended by all biotechnology sectors and is now therefore
regarded as the leading event for the European biotech industry.
New features this year include a top-level partnering forum that will
be held in cooperation with the US-based "Technology Vision Group
(TVG), one of the world's leading organizers of matchmaking and partnering
events. A principle focus of the partnering forum is red biotechnology
- "drug-device combination therapy". Focusing on biopharmaceuticals,
the event offers companies the ideal means of discovering new approaches
in the highly-complex interdisciplinary technology between biotechnology
and medicine and provides a short-cut for developing contacts.
Display categories
BIOTECHNICA 2007 showcases the entire "color spectrum" of the
industry. It will zoom in on future-related themes in pharmaceuticals/medicine,
environment, nutrition and the industrial use of biotechnological methods.
Deutsche Messe is expecting more than 900 companies from some 30 countries
at BIOTECHNICA 2007, which will be opened on the evening of 8 October
by the Vice-President of the European Commission, Günter Verheugen.
In 2005, 850 exhibitors presented their products and services to more
than 12,000 trade visitors. To further improve the quality and service
for exhibitors and visitors, organizational changes have been made to
the upcoming BIOTECHNICA. The event will now take place in the state-of-the-art
Halls 8 and 9 to the south of the exhibition grounds and thus offer a
wealth of biotechnology products and services under one roof. The Convention
Center next door - offering first-class conditions with highly-flexible
rooms and state-of-the-art presentation technologies - is available for
the lecture program.
Global guest list
Sharing know-how with Malaysia? Exporting to the USA? No problem, we've
got it covered. Every important biotech country is represented at the
show - at the very least by a national group display. The whole world
of biotechnology is coming to Hannover!
Here are just some of the more than 40 participating countries 2007:
Europe: England, Scotland, Wales, Ireland, France, Netherlands,
Belgium, Switzerland, Austria, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Estonia,
Russia, Spain, Portugal, Italy, plus a number of up-and-coming biotech
producer countries from Eastern Europe, such as Hungary, the Czech Republic,
Poland and Latvia.
America: USA, Canada
Asia and the Pacific: China, India, Japan, Taiwan, Korea, Malaysia,
Australia
PARTNERING FORUM of BIOTECHNICA 2007
This year, Deutsche Messe will be organizing a PARTNERING FORUM for the
first time in cooperation with the Technology Vision Group (TVG) from
Santa Cruz, California. Participants can look forward to a high-ranking
network event on the theme of "Drug-Device Combination Therapy".
The program of lectures, expert discussions, company presentations and
networking areas enables biotechnology and pharmaceutical companies, investors,
and research institutes to identify strategic partners directly.
There are two elements to the partnering event - an exclusive online
platform that was activated two months in advance of the trade fair and
a face-to-face gathering during the trade fair in the Convention Center,
which is located adjacent to the BIOTECHNICA halls on the Hannover exhibition
grounds.
The event is aimed at decision-makers from industry, research and development,
and venture capital companies, who will gather together in professional
surroundings. The partnering platform enables companies to work together
to make further inroads towards product development. It is also the fourth
pillar of the BIOTECHNICA program - which allows high-tech companies that
do not offer any products or services to benefit from the "BIOTECHNICA
industry get-together".
The lecture program for BIOTECHNICA 2007
Another highlight of this year's BIOTECHNICA is the conference program.
In addition to the "PARTNERING" event and the "Innovation forum" (company
and product presentations by exhibiting companies), more than 20 other
specialist events will be taking place in rooms in the Convention Center
that are specifically designed for conferences. The scheduled shows include
the continuation of the erstwhile BMBF biotechnology day under its new
title "German biotechnology days", the Merck forum, and the Vaccine Development
Days. Other themes include white biotechnology, regenerative medicine,
nanobiotechnology, plant and food biotechnology, and biomass. And of course,
the successful "Jobvector Career Days" job exchange is also being held
at BIOTECHNICA once again.
Prize money for "EUROPEAN BIOTECHNICA AWARD" increased by €60,000
The value of this award - a well-established competition in the European
biotechnology sector - has once again been increased significantly for
BIOTECHNICA 2007. For the first time it carries prize money of €100,000,
which makes it the world's most attractive competition for strengthening
the commitment of fledgling biotechnology companies. For the 5th time,
Deutsche Messe will present this award to a successful biotechnology company
during the Opening Ceremony for this year's BIOTECHNICA on 8 October 2007.
In previous years, the three first-placed companies shared prizes to the
value of €40,000.
Small and medium-sized European biotechnology and life science companies
can apply for the EUROPEAN BIOTECHNICA AWARD. They should:
- Have been active on the market for at least two years
- Number between 30 and 350 employees
- Generate a maximum total annual sales volume of €50 million
- Be financially independent (a maximum of 25 percent of the company's
capital is in the hands of a large corporation; except venture capital
firms)
- Already be involved successfully in the biotechnology and life sciences
market.
The key requirements for participation are innovative products and services
and associated concepts and business ideas. Application forms can be downloaded
at www.biotechnica-award.de.
Important date: The closing date for registration is 1 June 2007
It is definitely worth taking part because, as well as the prize money,
the finalists can win an exhibition stand at BIOTECH CHINA 2008 in Shanghai,
a comprehensive consulting package from CapGemini, the IPO Welcome Package
from Deutsche Börse (the German Stock Exchange), advertisements in "European
Biotechnology News" and membership of the European Association for Biotechnology,
EuropaBio.

Brief profile of Deutsche Messe
Achieving annual revenues of over EUR 250 million, around 790 employees,
60 agencies abroad and an exhibition center with a superb infrastructure
totaling over 1 million square meters of space, Deutsche Messe - based
in Hannover, Germany - is the world's foremost trade fair company. Deutsche
Messe develops, plans and runs trade fairs and exhibitions in Germany
and abroad.
It has extensive expertise and experience in planning and executing around
50 trade fairs and exhibitions every year, involving 21,000 exhibitors,
1.79 million visitors and 16,000 journalists from over 100 different countries.
The main emphasis continues to be on flagship international trade fairs
for capital goods, run by Deutsche Messe in Hannover. The aim of these
tradeshows is to represent the latest markets and highlight international
market trends. They are also a forum for applications-oriented demonstrations
of the latest technology, as well as new launches of cutting edge technologies
and presentations of the latest research findings.
Apart from its competence in running international trade fairs and the
unique capacity of its exhibition center, Deutsche Messe offers exhibitors
an excellent range of quality services, ensuring the best possible support
before, during and after the show.
Deutsche Messe's foreign business achieved a qualitative leap in autumn
2001 with the opening of a new, partly Deutsche Messe-owned exhibition
center in China. The Shanghai New International Expo Centre (SNIEC), located
in Pudong/Shanghai, represents a joint venture of German exhibition companies
based in Hannover, Duesseldorf and Munich along with their Chinese partners.
Deutsche Messe's overseas business strategy is increasingly focused on
exporting established trade fairs to selected growth regions around the
world. Through a policy of international branding--for example, transplanting
the CeBIT ICT show concept to venues like Istanbul, Shanghai and Sydney--
Deutsche Messe creates advantageous communication platforms set directly
amidst the world's emerging markets.
Along with its core business of staging internationally renowned trade
shows, Deutsche Messe is also a major provider of integrated marketing
communication services. When it comes to the special needs of show attendees
and exhibitors, Deutsche Messe offers a comprehensive range of services,
as well as facilitating communication and networking on a continuous basis
for the benefit of its global clients, particularly via its extensive
Internet platforms.
